Lassithi, Crete – excellent wines and whitewashed windmills

Lassithi is more of an area of Crete, its situated on the east side of Crete and covers a wide area, the villages below Lassithi Plateau are numerous and include Malia, Stalis, Agios Nikoloas and Ierapetra.

The villages within lassithi Platea are famous for the excellent wine that comes from the vineyards. The food in the mountain villages of Krassi and mohos is excellent but also well priced and a lot less than the more tourist towns.

Lassithi is famous for its whitewashed windmills which still pump water from the underground lakes.

When visiting the area of Lassithi the best places to visit are the Homospien Museum, Dikti caves, Krassi and Mohos.
